No lights, cameraphone, action!

I closed out the show hosted by Johnny Phillips and Georgia Barnes at Four String Brewery Monday night.  It was a good crowd, excellent beer and great lineup.  I approached the stage, ready to fill the crowd with slightly above average humor (drink up!) when the power went out after my second joke.

I’ve had no mic before, but this was a true first.  The whole block went out for pretty much no reason – no storm, no Yeti, no Luftwaffe bombing.  Just out.  I stood there for about four or five seconds and said, “Can everyone hear me?  My jokes have to be better than sitting in the dark.”  So we proceeded.  Three people in the front turned on their cameraphone flashlights and away we went.  At point I said this was the best show I’d had in months and I wasn’t joking.  It went very well – maybe because they couldn’t see my grumpy, worn out mug, but hopefully due to my grumpy, worn out material instead.  Thankfully, I was able to finish up before my abnormally hot metabolic furnace I call my body realized the A/C was out.  I’ll do an hour with no power, but over 20 minutes without air conditioning in July and it’s over.  I will literally die.
